Forward Deployed Engineering Manager
Run the engineering side of two to three concurrent deployments — small, embedded teams building AI systems inside a client's operation, accountable for a measured outcome, not activity.
You'll write code when a deployment needs it, but your primary job is making sure every engineer on your deployments is embedded correctly, measuring the right baseline, and shipping against a real production system — not a demo.
Why CopperPin
You'll see your work move a number on someone's P&L within weeks, not after a multi-quarter consulting cycle. Small teams, high ownership, and no layer of account management between you and the client's decision-makers.
What you'll do
- 01Own the outcome and timeline for multiple concurrent client deployments
- 02Sit with clients during scoping to define the baseline metric before any code is written
- 03Manage and mentor forward-deployed engineers embedded in the field
- 04Make the call — early — when a deployment should be re-scoped or stopped
- 05Own the handover: the client's team must be able to run the system without you
What we look for
7+ years of engineering experience, with real production ownership — not just team lead titles
Direct experience shipping software against enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, core banking, claims platforms, or similar)
Comfort being the most senior technical person in a client's room, and the judgment to know when to say the honest answer is "don't build this"
Prior AI/ML exposure is useful; production engineering discipline matters more
Important
This role is client-embedded and requires regular travel to client sites across the engagement regions. It is not a remote management role.
